Long-term Community Involvement
Over the fifty years that our club has been involved in community service in
Canberra and the region we have been:
- The original conveners of the Caravan and Camping show;
- The original organisers of the Canberra Art Festival;
And have:
- Built and sold three houses;
- Marshalled the Canberra Day Procession for 21 years;
- Supported Marymead through the building of a swimming pool;
- Built original Camp Cottermouth for Scouts, and refurbished the kitchen
prior to it being destroyed in 2003 fires;
- Established and ran a safe-house for teenage boys that we eventually handed
into the care of the Salvation Army;
- Ran Christmas Parties for the children in care of Marymead and Hartley House;
- Ran Christmas Parties for aged people with no family to share Christmas;
- Purchased a yacht for Sailability - sailing program for people with intellectual
disabilities; and
- Provided parking for concerts at Government House, Yarralumla.
And have had close and continual involvement with Lions Youth Haven at Kambah.
